Twitch Plays Pokémon reached a dramatic conclusion yesterday, viewers witnessing the Elite Four and rival Blue crumble to see the social experiment complete Pokémon Red.
Having teased that the stream would restart today, participants are slowly making their way through the Johto region, a Pokémon Crystal emulation having now replaced its predecessor. The game, an updated version of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, originally saw western release back in 2001, and was developed specifically for the Game Boy Color.
Pokémon Red took 122 million chat messages from 1,165,140 participants to clear, in turn taking 16 days, 7 hours, 45 minutes and 30 seconds to reign victorious in the Pokémon League. The Twitch stream 36 million viewers, peaking at 121,000 concurrent users at any one time. That proved an incredible experience, and one that already looks set to continue.
